Distinguished Visitor Zephyr Frank is Professor of Latin American History and Gildred Professor of Latin American Studies at Stanford University.  He was also the founding Director of the Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis.  He is the author of Reading Rio de Janeiro:  Literature and Society in the Nineteenth Century and Dutra's World:  Wealth and Family in Nineteenth-Century Rio de Janeiro, among several other publications concerning urban history and the social and cultural history of Brazil.
