"Race and Shakespeare" Talk Series
In collaboration with Professors Kim Benston (Haverford College), Eric Song (Swarthmore College), and Jane Hedley (Bryn Mawr College), the BMC Shakespeare Performance Troupe presents a three-part series on Shakespeare and Race. We will be exploring the conversations surrounding race in the early modern period through plays such as Othello as well as connecting them to the current political climate and what race means in Shakespearean performance today.
- 10th October 2020 at 4:30 PM –– I Am Not What I Am: A Conversation on Identity, Culture, and Race in Shakespeare’s Othello with Professor Kim Benston and Loh Jia Yi
- 24th October 2020 at 4:30 PM –– Professor Song’s lecture “The Racism of Jealousy, from Othello to the Rhetoric of the Cuck”
- 14th November 2020 at 7:30 PM –– Race-Blind or Race-Conscious Casting: What’s at Stake? (panel) with Professor Jane Hedley, Saria Rosenhaj, Linden Chamlee Wright, and Loh Jia Yi
