Julia Reeves ’14
Project Manager, Philadelphia Department Of Public Health
Growth & Structure of Cities Major
Julia is the Special Projects Manager at the Philadelphia Division of
Maternal, Child, and Family Health. In this role, she supports a
collective effort to launch a centralized intake system that will
connect Philadelphia families to home visiting programs that best meet
families’ goals. She also leads two empathy- and strength-based health
campaigns including the nationally and internationally recognized Philly
Loves Breastfeeding. Integral to all of Julia’s activities at the
Division of Maternal, Child and Family Health is a focus on affecting
positive systemic change to advance racial and ethnic health equity.
Julia is passionate about health justice and believes that the best work
is the product of strong, inclusive collaborations: deferring to and
centering the voices of local experts with sustained lived experience.
Prior to working at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health,
Julia spent an Americorps VISTA year at the Office of Community
Empowerment and Opportunity where she served as the Education and Health
& Wellness Coordinator for the Promise Zone Initiative. Beforehand
she worked for Dream Camp, an educational non-profit, mentoring children
ages 6 to 16 as well as doing curriculum development, program
management, and recruitment to provide year-round out of school time
programming to 250 families during the summer and 60 during the school
year.
She hails from Chicago and has lived in West Philly since 2014. She
is and learning to throw pottery and enjoys exploring Philly's natural
environments. As a Penn Center for Public Health Adjunct Fellow, she
participates in educational initiatives within the public health
workforce. Most recently Julia was selected to be a CityMatCH 2020
CityLeader, through which she is grateful to have the mentorship of
others taking an antiracist approach to public health.
