Stéphanie, a transgender sex worker  travels from Paris to a small town to care for her sick mother. She is joined by her two flatmates, a Franco-Algerian hustler and a Russian soldier gone AWOL. Sébastien Lifshitz’s third feature is a meditative tone-poem on society’s marginalized, drawing on the director’s collection of migrants and misfits. The film stitches together the frayed threads of this trio’s lives into a non-linear tapestry that assesses their fractured and self-spun senses of temporality, family, nationality, sexuality, and gender.

Presentation by the film’s director Sébastien Lifshitz. Screening will begin at 6pm and will be followed by a masterclass with the director.

Cosponsored by the Film Studies Program and a Seed Grant from the Mellon Foundation
