2021 Tree Canopy Conference:
Working with the Web of Life
Virtual Conference

October 12–13, 2021

Urban forests are more than a collection of individual trees, a fact increasingly recognized by city-wide planning efforts like Philadelphia's Urban Forestry Strategic Plan. From the availability of soil and water to regional climate effects, grassroots planting efforts, and municipal policies, this two-day conference looks at urban forests as part of the larger, interconnected systems. At the end of each day there will be an optional in-person tour, including Haverford College Campus and Morris Arboretum

This five-session online conference carries 5.25 CEUs for ISA certified arborists and 5.5 LA CES credits for landscape architects.

Featured Speakers:

Erica Smith Fichman – Philadelphia's New Urban Forest Strategic Plan

Gabrielle Paez– Tree Planting in Philadelphia: Mobilizing Communities to Retore the Urban Forest

George Lozefski– Adding Life to Urban Soils: Understanding the Connections Between Soil, Roots, and Micro-Organisms

Aaron Greenberg – Pennsylvania's Big Trees: Who They Are, Where They Are, and Why They Are Important

Mike Galvin – Tree Population and Canpoy Assessments

Elizabeth Svekla & Stephanie Chiorean – How Water Intersects with Greening

Jennifer Santoro & Keith Henderson – Examining the Effects of Weather and Climate to Inform Forest Management Practices
